Derick Alangi

Derick is Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Buea with a B.Eng in Computer Software Engineering. He has been a Google Summer of Code software engineering intern at Wikimedia Foundation in 2016, where he was the first African to contribute via the program at the Foundation. He also mentored GSoC for 2 consecutive years since 2017 and has mentored high school students at Wikimedia Foundation under the Google Code-In program for 4 straight years since 2015. Since 2013, he has assisted in mentoring students via the Elite Programmers Club program in the University of Buea.

In addition to that, he has also mentored the Outreachy program and has been an Organization Administrator for Google Summer of Code in Wikimedia. As community manager of GDG Buea, Derick ensures that the community's programs are effective and works with members within the Buea community to attain a certain mastery in the technological field.

In 2017, he had an awakening about how tech can influence programmers negatively especially health-wise and since then, he’s been a very strong health advocate in Tech with the aim of building a movement to support developers health at very big companies especially Google, Facebook, IBM and the world at large due to an increase in stress level in the world as it is today.
